ARTICLE V - MEMBERSHIP

fixed and authorized by the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors
shall, from time to time, determine by resolution duly adopted,
the number of memberships authorized in the Club. the existing memberships
shall be notified of the resolution of the Board, the number of
memberships outstanding, and the number and classes of memberships
to be offered for sale.
B. Classes of Membership
The following definitions shall apply in reference to the Classes
of Membership:
Equity Share - The number, value and applicable aircraft of Equity
Shares shall be determined by the Board of Directors consistent
with the estimated cost of construction. Currently 15 memberships
have been authorized at $16,000.00 per Equity Share, for an initial
capitalization of $240,000. Five (5) Equity Shares shall apply to
the two-place aircraft (a Lancair 360) and ten (10) Equity Shares
shall apply to the four-place aircraft (a Lancair IV.) Each full
Equity Share shall be entitled to one vote.
Construction Completion Date - The date established by the Board
of Directors, that the airplane under construction is completed.
This date will generally be after completion of the required test
flying, painting and upholstery.
Flying Privileges - Membership flying privileges in each Club airplane
shall be established by the Board of Directors on an individual
basis. Any flying status approved by the Board must be consistent
with FAA, insurance and equity considerations.
Associate Member - An Associate Member is one that has less than
an Equity Share in an airplane under construction. That member shall
share in the equity of the airplane under construction in proportion
to their contribution. An Associate Member shall have no flying
or voting privileges unless individually and specifically authorized
by a majority of the Board of Directors.
Construction Member - A Construction Member shall be an Associate
Member that has contributions totaling at least one (1) Equity Share.
A Construction Member shall have voting privileges and flying privileges
as approved by the Board of Directors. The flying privileges may
extend to the completed and construction aircraft. Construction
Members shall have one vote for each full Equity Share.
Complete Member - A Construction Member shall become a Complete
Member on the completion date of the construction aircraft. A Complete
Member may have only one vote per Equity Share; thus any equity
value in excess of an integral number of Equity Shares shall be
considered as a loan to the Club bearing interest at a rate to be
established by the Board.
Equity Application - The applicable aircraft for Equity Shares
shall be determined by the Board of Directors. In general, the applicable
aircraft will be consistent with the particular aircraft worked
on or invested in. If there are more than five Construction Members
on the completion date of the two-place aircraft, Equity Share application
will be based on the effective dates of the Construction Memberships.
At such time that all construction aircraft are completed, all share
members shall own an equal share of all club aircraft.
C. Qualification and Eligibility for Membership
Membership shall be obtained only through the unanimous approval
of the Board of Directors who shall be empowered to fix and determine
the conditions and requirements of membership.
D. Ownership of Assets and Rights upon Dissolution
Each member shall be deemed to own a share of the assets of the
Club based in proportion to their investment in cash, materials
and labor and the total number of members. For purposes of determining
the share value, labor shall be evaluated at $7.00 per hour up to
12/31/93. After 12/31/93 labor will be evaluated at $10.00 per hour.
Upon winding up or dissolution of the Club, the assets shall be
divided in accordance with the proportionate shares held by the
members at the time of dissolution. The assets of the Club shall
be determined by market value, or in the case of partially completed
aircraft by the investment in materials.
E. Membership Letters - Transferability
Each member shall be sent a letter of membership in such form as
shall be determined by the Board of Directors. No membership, or
letter of membership shall be transferred, sold, pledged, assigned,
bailed, alienated, or hypothecated except as hereinafter provided.
F. Termination of Membership - Voluntary
Membership may be transferred by a member if the individual purchasing
or receiving the membership is approved by the Board of Directors.
Until the approval of sale or transfer is obtained, the member shall
remain subject to all obligations of membership. The Board shall
not approve or consent to voluntary sale or transfer if the member
is indebted or obligated to the Club.
G. Termination of Membership - Involuntary
The Board of Directors may terminate any membership, with cause.
Upon such termination, the value of the membership held shall be
returned to the terminated member, and the membership thereby purchased
by the Corporation. Thereafter, such terminated members shall have
no recourse whatsoever against the Corporation, its assets, members,
officers, agents or employees. If at the time of termination a member
is indebted or obligated to the Club, the amount of indebtedness
shall be withheld from the member's share.
H. Membership Dues, Charges and Assessments
Each member shall be assessed dues on an individual basis. In general
the dues will be consistent with the fixed costs of the applicable
aircraft. For instance, in the case of a completed aircraft the
fixed costs would be shared by the members holding Equity Share
in that aircraft and those named on the aircraft insurance policy.
1. Each member shall be assessed monthly dues as fixed by the
Board of Directors. The monthly dues may cover, but not be limited
to such costs as hangar rental, annuals and insurance. The portion
of the monthly dues that covers insurance shall be based on the
individual member's experience such as recent retractable hours.
The Board of Directors shall determine each member's experience
factor. These factors shall be reviewed and updated at least every
two years, but no more than once a year.
2. Charges - Members shall be charged monthly for time flown at
hourly rates fixed by the Board of Directors.
3. Special Assessments of members may be made by the Board of
Directors in unusual or extreme circumstances.
4. Payment - Dues, charges and assessments are payable upon rendering
of an account, and become delinquent 45 days after billing date
noted on the invoice.
5. Penalties - Inactive Status - Termination - The Board of Directors
shall have the authority to declare a delinquent member inactive
and deny him use of the Club aircraft or to involuntarily terminate
such delinquent membership as provided in paragraph G of this Article.
ARTICLE VI - LIABILITY
OF MEMBERS
A. Insurance
The Club shall at all times cover all aircraft owned, leased, rented,
or chartered with hull insurance against ground and flight damage,
and shall carry property damage and public liability insurance to
protect the Club as a corporation and the members against liability,
actions, suits for damages or judgments of third persons or members.
The insurance shall be adequate in the judgment of the Board of
Directors.
B. Damage to Aircraft

engine or equipment, for which liability may be assessed under paragraph
B of this Article, the Board of Directors shall appoint an Accident

of Directors. The Board of Directors shall then take whatever action
is deemed appropriate under paragraphs B or D of this Article.

Board to have operated Club aircraft or equipment under conditions
or in a manner which would limit or nullify insurance coverage,
the member or his estate will be held liable for all loss or liability
(up to the value the aircraft is insured for) resulting from such
act which may not be covered by insurance.
ARTICLE VII - EQUIPMENT
The Club shall be authorized to build, own, lease, rent, or charter
aircraft for operation by Club members. Aircraft shall be suitable
and adequate for training and cross country operation, and shall
be equipped with instruments, navigational aids and other equipment
as may be necessary to comply with those FAR's that apply to the
usual operation of the aircraft. The number, types, and equipment
of aircraft shall be determined by the Board of Directors. Aircraft
engines, and equipment shall be maintained by competent A &

maintenance work. The standard of maintenance shall be at least
equal to that required of commercial operators by the FAA.

the Club members without approval of the Board of Directors. In

SECTION II - RESTRICTIONS
OF USE
1. Maneuvers not approved in the Owner's Manual are prohibited.

3. No person except an active member in good standing of the Club,
a licensed flight instructor giving dual to a member in good standing

shall be permitted by any Club member to act as pilot in command.
4. No Club member shall use the Club equipment for hire, nor shall
he rent or lend Club equipment to any other person.

use only flight instructors current in make and model and approved
by the Operations Officer. Instructors holding membership in the
Club may not use the Club aircraft to instruct or charter for hire

named on the insurance policy and that he meets the policy requirements.
8. Aircraft owned or controlled by the Lantzair Flyers Inc. may
be used only by active members who have been checked out in the
appropriate make and model to the satisfaction of the Operations

a. It is recommended that, if you have not flown the Club make
and model for three months, you get some time with an instructor
that is current in the make and model.

within the last six months.
d. If a member has not been active during the previous insurance
calendar year, that member's name will be removed from the insurance
policy. If such a member becomes active again, it shall be his responsibility
to see that his name is again placed on the insurance policy.
SECTION III - REPORTING
TIME
Each member shall report his name, date, the tach start and stop
time on the log book located in the airplane. Each member should
also record any aircraft squaks and report same to the Maintenance
Officer.
SECTION IV - INSPECTION
AND MAINTENANCE

any fuel leaks under the cowl and possible fire if a back fire occurs
during start.
Landing gear sw DOWN
We haven't tried it but rumor has it you can retract the gear while
on the ground.
Master ON
If the gear pump comes on for more than a few seconds, turn the
master OFF. Fix problem and try again. Check circuit breakers and
battery voltage. If voltage is less than 12.5v, a battery charge
may be necessary. See AUX POWER CHARGE. Note that a low battery
will draw a charging current of 6A. 3A indicates a charged battery.
Landing gear 3-GREEN
Note 3 green and press test button while cycling the throttle and
flaps. Note buzzer and flashing red.
Header fuel 3/4 MIN
Check with dip tube. If less than 3/4, transfer fuel to the header.
Note that filling with the transfer pumps could drain the battery.
That's why it's nice if you transfer fuel just prior to landing.
Wing fuel CHECK
Note that the gage only responds to the first 8 gallons. So a full
reading only indicates 8 or more gallons. It takes about 13 gallons
to start seeing fuel at the cap if on level ground.
Toggle Gal Rem
Total fuel on board is displayed in the right window. Remember!
The only useable fuel is what's in the header. Up-date the "gal
rem" to agree with what you see in the header and wing tanks.
OAT Check
If OAT is less than zero don't fly. Reasons are that you are outside
the tested envelope and hydraulic fluid is too thick to get adequate
gear free fall. If OAT is less than 40, then preheat is required.
The Tanis heater plug is fixed to the oil filler tube. Heater elements
are in each cylinder and in the oil sump. Note that if hanger temps
are below 20 the cowl blanket will be required for the heater to
do its job. With the blanket the engine will get toasty warm in
45 min. This can be checked by feeling the cylinder fins through
the cowl ports.
Flaps DOWN
Cycle flaps and leave down. This will prevent your passenger from
stepping on the flap. When raising the flaps, take care that the
charging cable or something else does not get pinched.
Flight PLANNED
The plan should at least include a fuel management plan and a weight
and balance. Note that fuel gages are fallible. For instance turning
on the alternator changes the fuel indication by 1/8 th (one gallon).
Even though your CG is within the specified limits, you may be
aft of the tested envelope. The most rearward CG tested is 64.8
in as of 4/6/96. The maximum gross weights are 1800 lbs for takeoff
and 1685 lbs for landing. As a general rule if the weight is less
than 1800 lbs, the CG will be within acceptable limits.
Oil 6QTS MIN
For a long trip 7QTS would be better.
BEFORE STARTING
Baggage SECURE
It's easier to organize before you get in. Consider:
Ignition OFF with key in
Belts untwisted, extended and laid at the seat edge
Baggage secure and within reach
Right head set plugged in right jacks
Squawks CHECK
See back of blue flight log
Tack RECORD
The blue log is in the left rear pocket. Note squawks and fill in
starting tack time. If fuel was added, remember to update the flow
meter. This is also a good time to check the currency form in the
ARROW PAC.
STARTING ENG
Prime AS REQ
For a cold engine use one or more throttle pumps before cranking.
Keep your hand on the throttle while cranking.
Starter ENGAGE
If the prop stalls, release the starter and try again. If it doesn't
start with 3-4 tries, consider a battery charge or engine pre-heat.
See also AUX POWER START. The starter draws 200A so it doesn't take
long to drain the battery.
Alt ON Voltage CHECK
When the alternator is turned on, you should note a voltage increase
from more than 12 to more than 14 volts and the LO VOLTS light should
go out when the throttle is advanced. If no voltage increase is
seen, it's time for a shut-down. With no alternator the battery
won't last long. That means no gear lights, no flaps, no fuel gages
no xfer pumps and no radio. Need any more reasons?
BEFORE TAKE-OFF and CLIMB
Directional control on the ground can often be obtained with just
rudder pressure. If full rudder is not enough then a couple of taps
on the brake should be enough. Always try to maximize rudder use
and minimize braking. Brake locking has been experienced. It can
result from over heating. If brake dragging is experienced, let
it cool and try releasing by pulling on the pedal toe.
Controls CHECK
Check all controls free ie left aileron and look left to note up
aileron and gas cap secure then ditto right.
Trim and flap CHECK
Trim full aft for light loads and slightly forward at gross weight.
Flap 2 sec down (10 deg). Note the roll trim tab should show a slight
right roll (tab slightly up).
CIGARS CHECK
C-CONTROL Controls free and take-off clearance pending
I-INSTRUMENTS Instrument check (AI,DG,OBS, fuel, temps)
G-GAS Mix adjust, header full, boost ON*, pressure check
A-ATTITUDE Trim and flap set
R-RUN UP Run up completed, mags on both
S-SEAT BELT Seat and shoulder belts secure, canopy latched
* The use of the fuel pump during takeoff and landing is optional
because we have gravity feed. The best policy is to be consistent
with the other planes you fly. If you are in the habit of using
the fuel pump its a good habit so use it on 3603R.
While taxiing and on the take-off run, stay on the centerline. The
Lancair's low wings have been known to clip lights and snow banks.
Apply power slow enough to maintain the center line. Maintain enough
back pressure to keep the nose light and it will fly when it wants
to. When off, remove the flaps and raise the gear when out of runway.
Adjust the pitch so that you get a solid acceleration to 100 kts.
Reduce power to 25 squared and pitch to 125 kt climb. Adjust mixture
as required. Note that leaning may be limited by engine temperature.
CRUISE/DESCENT
Plan fuel transfers so as to maintain more than 1/2 tank in the
header during flight and after shut down. For descent from cruise
altitude don't throttle back below 15" map in the summer and
20" map in the winter. This will minimize cooling shock and
be low enough to get a reasonable vertical speed (500 ft/min down).
When arriving at pattern altitude at cruise (180 kts), it is desirable
to level off at 4-5nm from the airport. If closer, a circling approach
would be appropriate. This allows time for bleeding off the speed
so that the 120 kt gear speed is obtained on downwind.
C-GUMP CHECK
C-CONTROLS Controls free and clearance to land
G-GAS Header full and boost ON
U-UNDERCARRIAGE Three green and flaps as req
M-MIXTURE Rich
P-PROP Prop high rpm (in)
Approaching the down wind is a good time for your initial CGUMP
CHECK (check carb heat, mixture RICH, fuel pump ON and prop 2400rpm.
Opposite the touch down spot, reduce power to 12"MAP, gear
down and 2 sec of flap, prop full in, and maintain altitude so
as
to slow to 100 kts. On base, third CGUMP CHECK, full flaps and
pitch to 90 kts. On final, make a slight power reduction and maintain
85 kts to the flare. After the flare, reduce power again and fly
the airplane a foot off the runway until the speed diminishes
and a slow touchdown speed (about 65 Kts when at a low Gross weight).
Use breaks only at the end of the rollout as necessary. Maintain
directional control with the rudder until no longer effective then
gently with differential braking. Save the brakes and tires by
not using excessive braking. Of course stopping before the end
of the runway remains the highest priority! Save yourself (and
others), then the airplane, then the brakes and tires, in that
order!
